The elixir of life, also known as elixir of immortality and sometimes equated with the philosopher’s stone of alchemy , is a potion that supposedly grants the drinker eternal life and or eternal youth. The great elixir was also said to cure all sickness. Alchemists sought the secret alchemy recipe for the elixir of life formula calling it aqua vitae or Aurum Potabile meaning liquid gold and gold of the sun. Some alchemists even called the elixir of life gold of a thousand mornings since ancient legends in alchemy circles depict biblical lifespans around 1000 years or more for those who found the secret of the eternal life mentioned in the bible.
